Gwen was born in 1919 in Croydon, Surrey, U.K. She had a conventional upbringing, attending an Anglo-Catholic school, and it was only when she was in her forties that an acquaintance asked her, “What do you know about spiritualism?”
The answer at that time was very little. However, she spent much of the next few years investigating the subject, reading books, attending meetings and a variety of churches, and on moving to Crawley, West Sussex, she started to sit in Circle.
In the early 1970s she began working as a platform medium for Spiritualist churches in and around Sussex, something which she continues to do to this day.
In the late 1970s Gwen and her husband, Albert, began to find themselves regularly woken in the middle of the night by an invisible gong sounding in their bedroom. This got to be very annoying, and one day in Circle, Albert appealed, if it's got to happen, then can it please happen at seven in the morning, when I have to get up for work. Lo and behold, the invisible gong sounded the following day at seven o'clock!
On Sunday 9th July 1978 Albert was called into work. Alone in the house, Gwen ran a bath for herself, but this was left to get cold, as she felt compelled instead to sit down with pen and paper. First she found herself with her eyes closed, scribbling a rough drawing, and then, opening her eyes, writing words that came to her from she knew not where. She had never experienced anything like this before, but it was to prove to be only the beginning.
For the next few years, sometimes as frequently as three or more times a week, Gwen would feel compelled to sit again with pen and paper. More often than not this occurred in the middle of the night, when she found herself somehow woken up to write. On each occasion she started with her eyes closed, producing drawings which sometimes became quite elaborate, often taking the form of animals. Then every time the writing would follow. The messages clearly did not come from Gwen herself: the language was not the kind that she would use, and often a word would come through that she did not recognise, would have to write phonetically, and then look up in a dictionary afterwards.
The messages took the form of teachings on spiritual matters, with subjects including the origin of the soul, destiny and free will, the nature and power of thought, the importance of intuition, the significance of love, the soul's path, and many, many more. All were delivered with great gentleness and love.
In one of the messages the source of them introduced himself as Mirashama, a being who has resided “in the spirit world for many years”, but who was once “a philosopher in the temple of Dhama”. The whole of the introduction is reproduced on the next page of this website. Later Gwen was to learn that his temple was situated in Hyderabad, on the banks of the Indus River, in what is now the Sindh province of Pakistan.
After a couple of years the messages from Mirashama became less frequent, although Gwen was still occasionally receiving them as late as 1996. Around seventy in all were given. Gwen typed up many of these, circulating them among friends and within local Spiritualist groups. She now hopes that the internet will allow these fascinating, thought-provoking and inspirational teachings to reach a wider audience.
This website was launched in August 2010 carrying a small number of the teachings of Mirashama. These will be added to as time permits, with the aim of eventually including all of them. Each one appears in exactly the words given to Gwen Tisch. From her original scripts, only a little of the punctuation and paragraph breaks have been changed for ease of reading. We hope you find the teachings as engaging and illuminating as we have. Your comments are always welcome.
In Light and Love,
